Presented in partnership with CPHR Alberta.
When witness accounts conflict and corroborating evidence is limited, investigators must carefully assess the credibility and reliability of the evidence before reaching findings.
This advanced workshop builds on the Workplace Investigation Certificate program and provides a practical framework for conducting, documenting, and defending credibility assessments in workplace investigations.
Participants will learn how to distinguish between honesty and reliability, evaluate conflicting evidence, and clearly explain their reasoning in a manner that is fair, logical, and defensible.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn how to:
- Distinguish between the two components of credibility: honesty and reliability
- Apply credibility assessment principles established through Canadian jurisprudence
- Evaluate the twelve key factors commonly considered in credibility assessments
- Assess the weight and reliability of evidence when accounts differ
- Articulate credibility assessments clearly and objectively
- Analyze high-profile case examples and identify the factors that influenced findings
