The quality of an investigation often depends on the quality of its interviews. Effective investigation interviewing requires preparation, active listening, sound judgment, and the ability to gather reliable information in a fair and professional manner.
This practical workshop builds on the Workplace Investigation Certificate program and provides participants with hands-on opportunities to develop and refine their interviewing skills. Through mock interviews, realistic scenarios, and facilitated feedback, participants will learn techniques that help them gather relevant information, manage challenging interview situations, and strengthen the defensibility of their investigations.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn how to:
- Apply current investigation interviewing principles and best practices
- Conduct effective interviews through realistic scenarios and practical exercises
- Understand relevant case law and jurisprudence relating to interview and interrogation techniques
- Use questioning strategies that encourage accurate, reliable, and complete information
- Recognize and address ethical considerations in investigation interviewing
- Avoid common interviewing mistakes, biases, and procedural pitfalls
Recommended Prerequisite: Participants are strongly encouraged to have completed the Workplace Investigation Certificate program before attending this workshop.
